This month we are proud to feature Kenya
and Savannah the
new serval cubs:
Servals are a small-medium sized
cat native to the grasslands of Africa. Kenya and Savannah
are sisters who were born April 9, 2004. Their parents are
adult servals who used to live at our old location in Reston
and now call Natural Bridge Zoo in southern Virginia their
home. Their names were selected in a contest Leesburg Animal
Park had in May, 2004.
Unlike many exotic cubs the Park
raises for other facilities, Kenya and Savannah will stay
in Leesburg after they are full-grown. Since they remain fairly
small, they will also be able to travel to schools with The
Learning Safari.
SERVAL STATS:
- Serval
usually live 13-20 years in captivity.
- Litters
of serval kittens can number from 1-4 cats, sometimes even
5.
- In
one a year, a wild serval can eat approximately 4,000 rodents,
260 snakes, and 130 birds.

An adult weighs between 29 and 41 pounds.
