Diversity Detectives

Your  school is considering participating in The Learning Safari’s new assembly program.  Presented as a “reality” game show, Diversity Detectives explores the vast variety of species and reinforces the fact that preserving biodiversity is at the root of all wildlife and habitat conservation efforts.  Audience volunteers are contestants in a bid to be designated A.C.E. (Animal Classification Expert) detectives.

Online Teacher Packet

A new feature of The Learning Safari’s assembly programs are the new 21st century teacher packets.  These supporting materials and excercises are contained on interactive CD-ROMs for teacher and student use.  They include fact sheets, printables, useful web links, full-color animal graphics, and a collection of challenging, age-appropriate activities.

You are currently logged on to the teacher packet prototype for Diversity Detectives.  This prototype is a sampling of the material you will get if you book the program.  Enjoy the pages that are included!

      Get Started

To begin navigating through this teacher packet, click on the active links in the frame to the left.   The Biodiversity, Animal Classification, Birds, Mammals, and Reptiles pages are (or will be) fact sheets.  The Quiz page allows students to test their knowledge of these concepts.  The Links page will provide useful links to interesting websites with additional information and activities.  The Animal Collector Cards contain fun facts about the animals that may have visited your school from The Learning Safari.  Classify Me is an exercise in grouping animals based on the traits they have in common.  The Detective Badge page is for printing badges that recognize students’ progress in learning (like the ones awarded in the assembly).

The Learning Safari

The Learning Safari is a non profit organization affiliated with Leesburg Animal Park.  Our environmental educators and wildlife experts have brought professional live animal presentations to schools and other groups throughout Virginia, Maryland, and DC for almost 15 years.  (The home of The Learning Safari, Leesburg Animal Park, is a USDA licensed facility with all necessary wildlife permits and is fully insured).  The wide range of mammals, birds, and reptiles captivates the young and young-at-heart in a way that is both instructive and entertaining.  While the curriculum has always incorporated audio-visuals, teacher guides, and other activities that reinforce the ecological concepts being covered (such as taxonomy, adaptations, and habitats) the assembly-style programs are being reinvented to become fully interactive multi-media events.  For more information, contact:
